Cathay Pacific’s sustainable development efforts

Cathay Pacific has long been proactive when it comes to environmental sustainability. By inviting our customers to choose greener flight options, Cathay Pacific’s Fly Greener program – the first offered by an Asian airline – has offset over 300,000 tonnes of CO2 since 2007. This is equivalent to flying around 1.3 million times from Hong Kong to Singapore in economy class.

In 2020, Cathay Pacific launched its first Green Friday promotion in the UK and Europe. In just 10 days, the airline has compensated nearly 5,000 London-Hong Kong flights, enough to cover 504 times around the world. This year, Cathay Pacific’s Green Friday promotion is extended globally with attractive flight deals and free double carbon offsets.

Dominic Perret, Cathay Pacific Regional General Manager for South East Asia, said: “We are very happy to launch Green Friday in South East Asia this year following the good response we received in Europe in 2020. Cathay Pacific is committed to reducing our carbon footprint, and many of our passengers are passionate about this as well.

Through Cathay Pacific’s Fly Greener program, we empower our customers to make greener flight choices by inviting them to offset the carbon emissions of their flight. We hope this, along with our Green Friday promotion, will encourage more people to join us in our efforts to mitigate our impact on climate change. “
