How to find the cheapest Easter flight deals before the sun rush

Travel suppliers expect to see a huge increase in holiday bookings when new rules come into force this week, with prices also set to soar. With fears over price hikes linked to rising costs for airlines, more and more people are looking for a bargain for their holidays.

Some hacks can be used to keep costs down, but that means travelers need to be flexible in their arrangements. Some suggest Sunday is the best day of the week to book, while others would say it depends on whether you’re traveling domestically or overseas.

It’s not just the day of the week that can affect the price. January tends to be the best month to book travel, with the average flight price £47 cheaper than those booked in July. But, of course, prices and trends vary by destination and flight duration, as well as other factors including seasonality and weather.

Charles Stewart, Managing Director at Foreign Exchange Provider, eurochange, shares his simple tips for finding the cheapest flights. Here is his advice.

Be flexible on dates

Generally, cheaper flights can be obtained by booking three to four months before the planned travel date. Being flexible with planning ahead normally helps secure the cheapest flights. In some cases, last minute deals on flights can be found, especially if they are not specific on exact dates.

Mr Stewart said: ‘If you are restricted to certain times, such as school holidays, being flexible on the airline provider will also allow you to find cheaper fares, as budget airlines don’t include often not add-ons in their initial cost. .”

Consult the calendar

For those who are lucky enough to be able to travel outside school holidays, cheaper flights can be obtained by respecting school timetables. To get the best rates, take advantage of off-peak months and research the school holiday calendar before planning.

Mr Stewart added: ‘Airlines are smart about their prices, increasing the cost of the ticket when there is guaranteed demand. So if you don’t want to be stung, be sure to also watch for any major sporting events that might be happening around the time of your vacation.”

Don’t Worry About Internet History

It’s long been suspected that airlines use recent searches to raise prices for flights a passenger has already searched for, but the data suggests that’s not the case. There is little evidence to prove this theory and instead the price of a flight is likely going up due to limited availability.

Be aware of add-ons

More often than not, flight comparison sites are the best place to find value flights. However, it is important to remember that the first price seen may not be the full cost. Check in advance how much the chosen airline will charge you for seat assignment, baggage and food.

Mr Stewart said: “Some airlines offer packages including flights, hotels, luggage, coach transfers and more, so it’s worth considering this option if you want a bargain. There are many other factors to consider when it comes to planning the perfect vacation, including the cost of the hotel, the price of a meal, and the money for the trip.

“To get the best rate on your travel currency, it is always better to exchange before leaving on vacation. We always recommend bringing local currency to your travel destination, so it is important to plan ahead and consider that buying travel money at the airport can be extremely expensive.
