Get the best flight deals by following the top tips from travel experts to keep costs down

Sunseekers are finding it harder to secure a discounted flight deal due to airline schedule reductions and rising travel costs. But there are a few tricks vacationers can use to cut costs when booking a last-minute trip.

An online search system has been developed to save customers time and money when searching for flights by automatically browsing countless airfare sites to find the best flight deals in real time. Naveen Dittakavi, Founder and Managing Director of Next Vacay, has revealed his own money-saving tricks to control vacation costs.

Here are his top tips for getting the best value from an airline:

Try flying Tuesday through Thursday

For summer vacation, book a trip of about six weeks to two months. Any closer and those prices go up, or worse, they could sell out, as many airlines are already struggling with passenger overload this year. Demand for summer travel has exploded, so use the weather wisely to watch price trends and get an idea of what a good price is for a chosen destination.

When looking for flights, avoid flying on weekends. Tuesday to Thursday are the best days to fly, but also avoid flying during high season, as summer will obviously be more expensive when flight prices increase.

Book through an airline rather than a third-party site

Naveen Dittakavi said: “The problem with booking through the sites is that if you ever have a problem or challenge with the flight, you have to go through a third party to resolve it. An airline is more likely to have a team to deal with the problem quickly, either in person or via a call service.

“With a third party, it’s likely the best option they can give you is to refund you, which isn’t helpful if you’re just looking to get to your destination. The airline, on the other hand, will do whatever who is in his power to bring you to your destination.

Pay attention to the destination

There are many variables that determine which city will be the cheapest place to fly at any given time – from seasonality to flight time. When looking for tickets, keep these things in mind, and if you’re flexible, you can adjust your plans accordingly to ensure you find the cheapest flights anywhere.

Try to get free perks instead of paying additional fees

Naveen Dittakavi added: “Again, you have to choose the right flights to increase your chances. Flights departing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays are the least busy business travel days.

“Early morning flights are usually packed with business travellers, so it’s unlikely you’ll be able to get a free upgrade here. Choosing to fly on public holidays or middle of the night flights is the best option to avoid the business travel rush.

“Since these types of flights are usually full of families, you’ll have an even better chance of getting a free upgrade to business class if you’re a couple or solo.”
